Do your heels ache when you get out of bed in the morning or when you stand up after long periods of inactivity? Does the pain ease after you’ve done some walking? You may be suffering from plantar faciitis, a painful inflammation of the connective tissue (fascia) on the bottom (plantar) of your feet. The plantar fascia begins at the base of the heel and continues through the arch, forming an important part of your body’s natural shock absorption system.

Plantar faciitis is most common among runners, the obese, and people who spend long periods of time standing and walking. Biomechanics also play a role in the development of plantar fasciitis – if you have a tendency to overpronate, you are at risk for plantar fasciitis due to strain on the plantar fascia caused by the inward-rolling motion of your gate. You can check for this by looking at the soles of your shoes. The tread will show heavy wear at the outer edge of the heel and the inner edge of the toebox. Plantar fasciitis can also result from wearing shoes with inadequate arch support – flip flops are a major culprit, as are flats, and even good shoes wear out over time, leaving your arches unsupported.

One of the best ways to prevent plantar fasciitis is to wear good, supportive shoes. Look for shoes with a stiff midsole – if you can twist the shoe at the arch, it’s too flexible for sustained weight-bearing activity. When you’re purchasing athletic shoes, look for a medial post (a denser material inserted at or near the inner heel), usually indicated by a two-toned midsole. Ask your retailer to show you shoes labeled “stability” or “motion control” – these are designed to curb overpronation and support the arch.

You can also prevent and alleviate the symptoms of plantar fasciitis with arch support insoles. Your athletic shoes probably have removable insoles; you should be able to remove the original and replace it with a firmer, more supportive one without sacrificing fit. For dress shoes and shoes without removable insoles, you can get thinner, three-quarter length arch supports.

If you aren’t sure how to choose the appropriate shoe or insole, ask the experts! At New Balance Annapolis, we can help you find what you need. We have a full line of supportive New Balance shoes and insoles to keep your feet happy and plantar fasciitis free.

Plantar fasciitis is a painful foot condition where there is wear and tear to the plantar fascia of the foot. The plantar fascia is a band of tissue that connects the heel to the toe via the bottom of the foot. It is one of the single most common causes of heel pain and foot problems today. Symptoms of plantar fasciitis include pain to one or both felt, worsening during the first steps of the day or during long periods of standing. The pain is sharp in plantar fasciitis and will be in the heel area of the foot.

Plantar fasciitis comes from walking long distances with weight, either held or from the person. This can be from hard surface walking while not having proper arch support in the shoe. When the foot is not properly arched or cushioned there is tremendous stress on the bones of the foot and the muscles can ache. Obesity can aggravate the symptoms and cause additional harm to the plantar fascia. Most foot ailments and feet pain come from improperly sized shoes, shoes that do not have good arch support, and those not seeking the correct cushion for the tender spots of the foot.

Shoes that can prevent plantar fasciitis and painful heels will have a soft heel. Also look for a shoe that has an arch, as arches can help the abnormal pronation of the foot. Abnormal pronation of the foot is when the foot and ankle aren’t able to stabilize the body due to the foot rolling inward more than 15%. Overpronation will make the feet unable to deal with the shock it absorbs properly.Depending on how your feet are, you may want to get a pressure relief insert to help get even more arch and softness to the shoe.

Proper shoes can give you the correct arching your foot needs, extra cushioning for the heels, and correct overpronation so that plantar fascilitis can be reduced and pain is lessened. Make sure you look for the shoes that can give you everything your feet need, so that you can stay pain free longer.

If you are suffering from Plantar Facsiitis, a painful condition of the foot, New Balance shoes offers comfort and relief with several styles of shoes and inserts. Their Metatarsal Arch Rise is contoured, which helps re-distribute weight and pressure. This will bring relief from painful plantar fasciitis and other foot conditions.

Plantar facsia is a thick band of connective tissue that normally supports the foot arch. When the inflammatory condition of plantar fasciitis erupts, it can interfere with normal living and work. This painful condition is a result of abnormal pronation (downward rotation) of the foot. It can also be caused by excessive wear to the plantar fascia of the foot. Part of the contributing factors to this condition are overweight, jobs that require a lot of walking, and lack of arch support in shoes. The pain is felt under the heel, and is most painful early in the day. Continual bouts of plantar fasciitis can cause a person to leave such jobs due to pain.

One way to combat the pain of plantar fasciitis is with properly designed arch support in your shoes. New Balance shoes has developed several ways to achieve this goal. Their motion control shoes, stability inserts, and heat moldable arch support inserts can help with pressure relief. The shoes and inserts are designed to re-distribute weight and pressure, thus giving relief from plantar fasciitis. The shoe offers a soft heel with a significant arch. See your local New Balance dealer for more information.

The first step out of bed is agonizing, but the pain seems to diminish over the course of the day, until later when you try to get out of your chair where you just sat through a two hour meeting, and the same stabbing pain you felt in the morning returns in your heel. Oddly enough, being off your feet seems to make the problem worse, not better.

This condition, plantar fasciitis, is most commonly seen in runners or those who are pregnant or overweight. The pain is rooted in the inflammation of the planta fascia. This is a connective band, like a rubber band, that stretches under the arch and connects your heel to the the toes. Throughout the day, it stretches and moves with the foot, but excessive overstretching it by having poor arch support can invite problems such as tears in the plantar fascia which can lead to inflammation and pain. Certain factors can cause or make the problem worse, and one of the biggest culprits is wearing shoes without adequate support, or being a frequent runner. If you suffer from plantar fasciitis, your doctor might recommend aspirin or ibuprofen to temporarily relieve pain. He will also suggest that you change your footwear to ease current symptoms and prevent future problems.

Those with plantar fasciitis need a shoe that offers support in the arch. This can help to prevent the plantar fascia from overstretching and tearing. A shoe that has soft heel support will also help to add some cushioning. Some of the shoes in the New Balance line best for those with plantar fasciitis include: Men’s or Women’s Walking 845, 926, or 811 Motion Control or the Women’s Walking 760 Stability; Men’s of Women’s Running 1223, 859, 769 Stability; the Men’s or Women’s 1123 or 587 Running Motion Control. The Aravon Line of women’s dress shoes will also off support for the foot while at work.

Proper foot support is crucial to controlling and alleviating the pain of plantar fasciitis.

Plantar Fasciitis is incredibly painful and makes walking nearly impossible for many people. More commonly known as heel spurs because if feels like a sharp shard of bone is poking into the heel when standing up or walking it is really caused by an injury to the tendons and muscles that support the arch of the foot. That is why wearing the right shoe is so important if you are prone to heel spurs.

It is easier to prevent plantar fasciitis than it is to cure it. Shoes with extra arch support help, as well as shoes that are balanced and keep the foot from rolling inward which is a leading cause of torn plantar fasciitis. For runners or those who need to walk a great deal during their daily work shoes that are heavily cushioned to absorb the shock and pounding that can stress the foot and cause tears to the tendon causing heel spurs are an important wardrobe element.

All it takes is the tiniest tear in the plantar fasciitis tendon to create extreme pain that takes a long time to heal. It can take six months to a year of continued therapy including not using the injured foot to relieve heel spur pain. If the problem that caused the pain is not dealt with, however, recurrence of the injury is likely. In fact, during treatment of the injured foot the opposite foot often develops the same problem if solid support is not provided.

The plantar fasciitis is a condition which can cause severe pain in the arches of the foot. Caused by damage done to the plantar fascia region of the foot, (a thick piece of connective tissue) those who suffer from this condition often find it quite painful, and even difficult to walk. In these cases pain tends to be worse in the early morning and with the first few steps taken every day.

Of course, you can seek out the help of a physician and costly pain medication if you are suffering from plantar fasciitis – but this is only going to cover up the condition. In order to truly fix the problem you will actually need to increase the comfort level of your feet, and particular the arch and heel support. And there are few better ways to do this than with brand new shoes from New Balance.

There have been many innovations made in footwear technology in the past decade, and New Balance combines them all into one shoe. With superior padding designed specifically to increase both arch and heel support, these shoes can not only reduce and eliminate pain for those who suffer from plantar fasciitis, but they can also help prevent them altogether when worn by at-risk individuals. And because they are so lightweight, New Balance shoes are ideal for any type of situation from your every day walk through the park to your most vigorous of work-out routines, New Balance will keep your feet comfortable the entire time.

It is appropriate to have the proper shoes to prevent pain from plantar fasciitis. If there is a combination doing stretching and wearing proper footwear surgery can often be avoided.

People with plantar fasciitis should use heel lifts and arch supports when trying on new shoes. Arch supports help relieve pressure on the plantar fascia and help absorb shock. Shoes that lack support and cushioning add to the stress on theh planter fascia.

Shoes that do not fit securely on the foot should be avoided. Shoes with open heels and sandels are not a good fit for people with Plantar Fasciitis. Going barefoot should also be avoided.

New Balance offers a wide range of shoes that accommodate plantar fasciits.

The new balance 845 provides cushioning and exceptional shock absorption. New Balance 926 provides lightweight cushioning and flexibility. The new balance 811 is also a good choice for plantar fasciitis because it provides lightweight cushioning, extra stability for walkers and allows for circulation and breathing

If you sometimes feel that you are “walking on a marble,” and you have persistent pain in the ball of your foot, you may have a condition called Morton’s neuroma. A neuroma is a benign tumor of a nerve. Morton’s neuroma is not actually a tumor, but a thickening of the tissue that surrounds the digital nerve leading to the toes. It occurs as the nerve passes under the ligament connecting the toe bones (metatarsals) in the forefoot. Morton’s neuroma most frequently develops between the third and fourth toes, usually in response to irritation, trauma or excessive pressure. The incidence of Morton’s neuroma is 8 to 10 times greater in women than in men.

If you need a dress shoe for work you can also look at our Aravon Line under Women’s Casual/Dress. They are not specifically for foot problems, but they will be more comfortable and supportive than other Dress Shoes.

Shoe Recommendations
Metatarsal padding is a must (which is already in the shoes below), along with an SL-2 Last, which permits the forefoot to splay or spread. Any New Balance Contoured insole with metatarsal padding will provide relief especially the Pressure Relief Insole.
